|Arnav Pai trained at Massdojo for several years before relocating to TX in 2016. He participated on our national team in 2015 & 2016. He earned a bronze medal in kumite each of those years.
He fought with the heart of a lion and beat opponents much bigger than him. This amazed me, because he was often the student goofing off, making jokes and amusing all of us. However, when he stepped on the floor… he was more than ready for battle.
When he moved to TX, he had only two requests. One was to continue to train karate, and the other to get a golden retriever after spending time with my pets Rocky & Sanbon.
Arnav trained with Brody Burns, Sensei from 2016 forward. His dad would drive him over an hour to the dojo and back so he could continue his training.
The other day he sent me this note:
“Hey Sensei! It’s Arnav Pai, I hope you remember me, I use to train with you before moving to Texas, I just wanted to tell you personally that I have received an Offer of Appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, if it wasn’t for your training all those years ago when I was a little, and quite frankly undisciplined kid, I wouldn’t have been able to shape myself into the well rounded individual who would have been able to receive such an amazing and honorable offer. I hope you are doing well, and once again I thank you so much for everything you have done to help shape me into the young man I am today!”
I am very proud of his accomplishments, his appointment to West Point and very much appreciated his message to me.
